“Very Special…” – the phrase that comes to mind when thinking of this past weekend’s annual clinic in Lake George. Meeting new friends and spending times with old friends is one of the best parts of this weekend. With the help of our board, Lake George Volleyball, the Georgian, Kennedy and the AVCA and the great volleyball community across our state, our biggest and best clinic helped to spread the volleyball word. My memories include Coach Cal Wickens and his world of knowledge about so many facets of our sport, Coach Christi Kelsey bringing her class, knowledge and inspiration, getting to teach along my son Mike for two sessions, listening to rock star setting coach Lindsey Schlegel and the technical expertise of Kristin Baker.

Next year’s clinic is May 17-19, 2019 in Lake George. Please make plans to attend. We feel that you will be happy about the weekend that we put together.

The New York State Volleyball Coaches Association is full of momentum! We will continue to work for you – our membership. Please let us know if there is anything else that we can do for you. Enjoy your summer and we will see you in the fall!!!!

Hello fellow coaches and Happy New Year!!!

The new year is a time when people look forward to new things with new plans and new goals. Some want to just start a new year because the year before may have been sad or challenging. Others finally have taken a breath from the fall after some good holiday time with family and begin to plan for next season.

This fall the NYVCA has done so much for New York Volleyball. We have honored another great Hall Of Fame Class! We have honored all-state teams by getting certificates to members of all of our all-state teams. On the website soon you will see the sectional coaches and players of the year. We are so happy to honor all these individuals!

We at the AVCA and NYVCA are so happy with the direction of volleyball across the country and our state. Our numbers are growing and the level of play is definitely increasing. As coaches we need to keep up with the growth of our sport. So many put so much time in and want to do so much for your kids. We look at this growth and wonder what else could we do for our kids? Where do I find the little things that help me become a better coach and teacher of volleyball to my team? This is where the NYVCA and the AVCA come in. We provide a team atmosphere for you as a coach, an atmosphere of learning and comradery. We are YOUR volleyball network. As a member of our organization you will get drills, videos, and clinics that give you the tools to become a better coach for your team.

We look forward to you joining us at our annual New York State Coaches Clinic in May in beautiful Lake George May 18-20. This year’s clinic has a local New York feel with some of the best coaches in our state and surrounding states. We ask you to bring a friend or two to our clinic. The networking with other coaches in the state is awesome! Lake George has a fun nightlife (alright I love to dance!) so you get to spend some quality time with other coaches from and around the state of New York!

Thank you to all of our representatives from around the state who help us to get these great things done for volleyball. I would especially like to thank Peggy Seese who did every single envelope and certificate for every all state player. I don’t know where Peggy finds the time!! Thank you to Kathy and Kennedy from the AVCA for the support and growth of our organization. We look forward to a new year filled with great volleyball and meeting new friends.

November 15, 2017

It is my pleasure to introduce the 2017 New York Volleyball Coaches Association Hall of Fame class! These four coaches have made so many contributions to our sport and we are honored to induct them on November 17 at the state volleyball banquets. Please look over the next week or so on our website for information on these great coaches – nyvbcoaches.com
Bill Kropp – Coach Kropp was a pioneer in volleyball for Suffolk County boys volleyball. Most notably at Sachem High School where he started a program that is now one of the best in the state.  He won over 500 matches and coached girls and collegiately also.
Cindy D’Errico – Cindy has had two coaching stints at Byron Bergen in Section 5. The first produced 3 NYS Championships. Cindy is a tireless worker and advocate for volleyball in the Rochester area, especially working with the VolleyFX Volleyball Club.
Kevin Harrington – When you think of the top programs of all time in Long Island one of those  that you think about is the program that Kevin Harrington built at John Glenn High School.  Kevin had over 500 wins to go along with 18 sectional championships and 6 state championships. Kevin was instrumental in helping Section 11 make the switch from Spring to Fall volleyball.
Stephen Pierce – The name Stephen Pierce is synonymous with success and all-time state records. 995 overall wins and 14 state championships – all time New York Records. He has coached many All-Americans and Gatorade player of the year candidates. Stephen is known nationally with his work with USA Volleyball and is especially known for the many hours that he has given towards the development Niagara Frontier Volleyball Club in Buffalo.
