- 2 recommendations from fellow coaches in good standing
- 300+ wins in New York State
NYVCA Hall of Fame class of 2026
JANUARY 20, 2026 (New York) - The New York Volleyball Coaches Association (NYVCA) is pleased to announce its Class of 2026 Hall of Fame inductees: Mike Fusare, Jeff Moulton, Sue Pernick and Debbie Schruefer. These highly regarded volleyball coaches have made significant contributions to advancement of high school volleyball in New York.
The Class of 2025 induction ceremony will be held during the 2026 NYVCA Coaches Clinic on May 15-16, in Lake George, New York.

Class of 2026 - Mike Fusare, Penfield Boys VolleyballMike Fusare grew up in the Rochester area and graduated from Pittsford Sutherland in 1980 before earning his Physical Education degree from SUNY Cortland. After seven years teaching in North Myrtle Beach, he returned to New York in 1992 and began coaching at Penfield, where he was mentored by Chris Redding and longtime AD Pete Shambo. Mike became the fourth head coach in Penfield Boys Volleyball history in 1995 and led the program until 2022, compiling a 536–117 record and becoming its winningest coach. His teams won multiple Monroe County and Section V titles, plus three NYS Division I Championships (2016, 2017, 2021). He also founded Performance Volleyball Camps, ran a successful youth program, and spent 37 years as a physical education teacher. READ MORE. |

Class of 2026 - Jeff Moulton, Cornwall Central High SchoolJeff Moulton grew up in Madrid, New York, and became a three‑sport athlete at Madrid–Waddington, later earning Hall of Fame honors in soccer and track. He graduated from SUNY Cortland with a degree in Physical Education, competing in collegiate soccer and track and qualifying provisionally for the NCAA decathlon. After serving as an assistant track coach at Cortland and earning a master’s from Montclair State, he began teaching and coaching at Cornwall Central in 1999. Over 27 years, he has coached volleyball, basketball, and track, contributing to more than 50 Section titles. His volleyball program has amassed 479 wins, 21 Division Titles, 20 Sectional Titles, eight Regional Titles, and eight Final Four appearances. Jeff and his wife, Marietta, also founded the Cornwall Volleyball Club, serving over 90 young athletes annually. READ MORE. |

Class of 2026 - Sue Pernick, Lancaster Central High SchoolSue’s Hall of Fame induction honors a volleyball career marked by excellence, longevity, and meaningful impact. She spent 25 years leading the Lancaster program, earning six State Championship appearances, two State titles, four State Runner‑Up finishes, seven Regional titles, nine Sectional titles, and twelve Division titles. Her teams also earned a State Sportsmanship Award and produced a New York State Gatorade Player of the Year, along with numerous collegiate athletes across Divisions I, II, and III. Beyond high school play, Sue expanded her influence through club volleyball, coaching with Nickel City VBC and Cheetah VBC. Known for her ability to build relationships and elevate athletes, she values not only the championships but the lifelong connections and shared experiences that defined her coaching journey. Class of 2026 - Debbie Schruefer, Frontier Central High SchoolDebby dedicated nearly four decades to building and leading one of Western New York’s most respected volleyball programs. After beginning her coaching career in 1984, she served as the Varsity Girls Volleyball Coach at Frontier for 39 years, earning 600+ career wins, 8 league titles, and 6 sectional championships. She helped grow the sport regionally by founding her own club, which later merged into what became Niagara Frontier Volleyball Club, one of the premier programs in the area. Debby has also served as the Section VI Girls Volleyball Coordinator for 30 years, shaping postseason play and athlete opportunities across the region. Her contributions earned multiple honors, including the WEVA Meritorious Service Award, NYS Coaches Association Honor Award, Character Coach of the Year, and AVCA Region Coach of the Year (2023). Class of 2025 - Sandy Mancuso-Lopez, Kingston High School, Mount AcademySandy Mancuso Lopez is the all-time leader in wins at Kingston High School and then she started a state power at Mount Academy. Coach Mancuso-Lopez achieved a remarkable 505-116 combined career record in which she accumulated 12 Sectional Championships, five Regional Championships, 13 League Championships, and two NYS State Class D State Championships. While at Kingston her volleyball teams went 380-104 making her the Winningest Volleyball Coach in KHS history. She was named NHVAL Coach of the Year (1986), and Middletown Record Coach of the Year (1997, 1999). In 2024, she was inducted into the Kingston High School Hall of Fame as a player and coach. While at Mount Academy, she was named Section 9 Volleyball Coach of the Year (2020) and New York Volleyball Coach’s Association Coach of the Year (2021, 2022). READ MORE. |

Class of 2025 - Angela Robbins, Carthage High SchoolAngie Robbins is a volleyball coaching legend in the Frontier League. She began her career coaching at South Lewis High School during the 1989-1990 season. She followed that with her first season at Carthage in 1990-91 where she led them to a Frontier League Championship and Section III, Class “B” finals. She would go on to coach over 170 players in her long, storied 32-year career. Coach Robbins finished her career with a record of 435-190, including three consecutive undefeated seasons and Section III Championships. She also had 13 Frontier League Championships, 10 consecutive. She was named the 2014-15 Section III Class “A” Coach of the Year and was a 2018 New York State Women of Distinction Honoree. She was also the 2024 Hall of Achievement Honoree at Carthage Central. Angela will be inducted posthumously after losing her battle ALS in 2024. READ MORE. |
